Connector for OBS, the world's most popular streaming and capture software

  • Hello Vouk!

Can you create a connector for OBS, the world's most popular broadcaster and capture software ?

Especially, it would be important for the capture function of OSB, the broadcaster/streaming is not important at all.

    Thank you for your reply!

Changed the title of the thread from “Connector for OBS, the most popular broadcaster and capture software” to “Connector for OBS, the world's most popular streaming and capture software”.

This topic pops up from time to time. What is the general idea behind this? Not many encoders are suitable for real-time encoding, and those capable of it are already included in OBS. What encoder(s) do you exactly need that are not included there?

    HI!

Most of the FFMPEG based compression in OBS are not reliable, they often did not react to FFMPEG commands, you can not set options for the codecs etc....

That's why a more reliable plugin needed.

OBS use plugins, what if there is a more reliable VOUK plugin for OBS?

  • So for example you want to record directly i.e. in AV1 or VP9?

The most important is the H264 and HEVC in both NVENC and QSVENC options...

like to record lossless 4K HEVC or AVC from semi-professional camcorders to my small laptop. :)))

But of course, I also like the UT VIDEO CODEC too...

The thing is that you'd need realtime (at least) encoding here. Maybe you want to record your webcam or any game and if the encoding ist not fast enough (i.e. x265, VP9, AV1) these frame will be dropped. So for most encoders in Voukoder this is not useful.

btw. OBS includes alot of encoders already (even more than Voukoder):

It's not that i don't want to do it. But I need a good reason, for why to do it.

  • I don't record games, these are only for teenagers. I want to record lossless 4K video via the Cam Link 4K to my laptop. Can you implement UT video? Because OBS doesn't handle well the FFMPEG commands, so the options for most of the built in ffmpeg codecs are laughable in OBS.

  • When using the nvenc encoder of OBS, the recorded picture will have a sudden feeling of card and falling frame. For notebooks, OBS is also running on the core display, even if the recording uses the nvenc encoder, which will lead to very limited performance. As far as OBS recording is concerned, the recorded pictures and clarity are also very poor. With geforce recording, the fluency and clarity of the video are better than obs. However, OBS has a powerful window capture function, so we still hope that voucoder can join OBS support to see if it can improve OBS's garbage recording function

  • I will investigate this soon

Yes, I can just confirm what user voukoder_h said. Problems occour only with the usage of slow/old CPUs. But it is a 100% natural phenomenon in video capture.

When will you release the voukoder OBS plugin?

    Thank you for your reply!

    Best regards!

I'll look into this things when I have time for doing it. I usually work on voukoder when i am finished with my day job which is 8-9 hours a day or maybe on a weekend. And even then, i prioritize things. Fixing 6.1rc2 will be next before doing anything new.

If you want to have something faster you have two options:

    • Request a custom (paid work) version
    • Look at the code yourself if you are a programmer. It is open source.

Edit regarding OBS: You could also ask the OBS team to implement the voukoder interface similar of how i did it with VirtualDub. Maybe they're interested in it too. The we don't need a OBS plugin.
