Prores very slow on resolve 17

  • I'm a resolve user, so I like Voukoder in order to export prorers encoded file on windows.
But I tried and it is very, very slow. On a laptop, It take 12 minutes for a 2 minutes video at 1080p. Same video in DNXHD take around 2 minutes.

I set YUV 16 bit in resolve interface us I guess that YUV 8 bit export only 8 bit from resolve.
There is something wrong in my way?

  • Ok I will send log file tonight, anyway the DVR project is very simple because is only a test: a 4K clip, with a LUT applied, scaled at 1080p. As I wrote, export to a similar codec (dnxhd) is faster, around real time. Vokoder prores take 5 times.
A info: if I encode on the same PC a prores file using ffmpeg is a lot faster.

  • Well, of course FFmpeg as standalone is faster than DVR + Voukoder, because DVR is rendering the frames before Voukoder can encode them. You'd have to compare:

    • DVR export time + FFmpeg encoding time
    • DVR with Voukoder export

Plugin uses prores_ks which is closer with bitrates etc. to official encoder and ffmpeg default ProRes encoder is prores, which is way faster than _ks version. Use prores_ks in ffmpeg then then compare times.

  • "prores"/"prores_aw" is the less advanced encoder, though it might be faster. It accepts only one setting - the "vendor" (which you'd most likely default to "apl0" anyway).

Can add it too if you really want it ...

  • I can confirm - I tried to export a simple 8 seconds clip from DR17 and Voukoder with ProRes is super slow compared to native codecs.

Export takes like 10 times longer than in Grass Valley HQX or Cineform.

Do you have any suggestions on the best settings for the lossless roundtrip to Vegas Pro?

Also, it would be great if Voukoder could support MagicYUV codec. Is that possible?
